HC Deb 12 October 1939 vol 352 c488
15. Miss Ward

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will give an assurance that husbands of women who have been evacuated with young children will be allowed from the Unemployment Assistance Board a sufficient sum for purchasing food after other essential expenditure has been met?

Mr. E. Brown

The practice of the Unemployment Assistance Board where the wife and children of an applicant have been evacuated is to limit the adjustment in the allowance to such amount as is reasonabe in view of his changed circumstances. I am not aware that the amount of the adjustment has led to any complaint, but if my hon. Friend has any particular case in mind and will let me have details I will have inquiries made.
