HC Deb 11 October 1939 vol 352 cc332-3
54. Mr. James Griffiths

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether local food committees have been instructed to appoint inspectors to ensure that the orders and regulations issued are being observed, or what other measures are to be taken to secure this end?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

The answer to the first part of the hon. Member's question is in the negative. In many areas it is probable that food control committees will arrange for inspectors appointed by the local authority to be employed on this work so far as their other duties permit, but it will probably be necessary in addition to appoint officers on the staff of the divisional food officer to undertake special inquiries.
