HC Deb 09 October 1939 vol 352 cc9-10
17. Commander Locker-Lampson

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will make an advance of £5 an acre to farmers and smallholders for the utilisation and ploughing-up of their land?

Sir R. Dorman-Smith

Provision is already made in Part IV of the Agricultural Development Act, 1939, whereby grants of £2 per acre may be paid to farmers who plough up grassland subject to certain conditions. I do not think that the amount of the grant is inadequate for the purpose.
