HC Deb 05 October 1939 vol 351 cc2063-4
7. Mr. J. Griffiths

asked the Minister of Labour the number of unemployed juveniles in the county of Carmarthenshire; and whether he will take steps to re-open the junior instruction centres that have been closed at Llanelly and Ammanford?

Mr. E. Brown

The number of unemployed juveniles in the county of Carmarthen at nth September was 731. The question of re-opening junior instruction centres has been left to local education authorities for determination in the light of local circumstances.

Mr. Griffiths

Do I gather that if the local education authority think it advisable to open a centre, it will receive the approval of the Ministry?

Mr. Brown

Certainly, that is what I have said. We have left the question to be judged, in the light of local circumstances, by the local education authority.
