HC Deb 04 October 1939 vol 351 cc1944-5
47. Mr. Mander

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider the advisability of constituting a war cabinet, limited in numbers and free from Departmental duties, with a view to the most effective prosecution of the war and the achievement of a lasting peace?

The Prime Minister

No, Sir.

Mr. Mander

Does not the Prime Minister really think that it is a most unsatisfactory arrangement to have six out of nineMembers of the War Cabinet with full-time Departmental jobs, and would not it be better to have a smaller number without any Departmental jobs at all?

The Prime Minister

If I thought so I should have done it,

Mr. Mander

Will the Prime Minister think again?
