HC Deb 04 October 1939 vol 351 cc1959-60
73. Mr. Higgs

asked the Minister of Supply whether he has considered the letters received from a large number of printing firms in various parts of the country offering their capacity for armament purposes; whether this capacity can be utilised, and if so, whether he will take steps to avail himself of these offers?

The Minister of Supply (Mr. Burgin)

I have received a large number of such offers, which I have very much appreciated. I regret, however, that it is not possible to utilise this type of machinery for armament purposes. It is unfortunately the fact that printing machinery does not lend itself to any other use than printing.
