HC Deb 04 October 1939 vol 351 cc1961-2
84. Mr. Emery

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the postal charge of Is. 3d. for small parcels up to 3 lbs. in weight forwarded to members of the fighting Forces overseas is causing hardship in numerous cases; and whether he will consider reducing the charge to that of the inland rate?

85. Mr. Pethick-Lawrence

asked the Postmaster-General whether his attention has been drawn to the heavy postage rates imposed for sending parcels to British soldiers serving overseas; and whether he will consider making reductions in them?

The Assistant Postmaster-General (Mr. Mabane)

I am not in a position to add anything to the answers given by my right hon. Friend to the hon. Member for Burnley (Mr. Burke) on 2nd October and to the hon. Member for Stoke-on-Trent (Mr. E. Smith) yesterday.

Mr. Emery

Does my hon. Friend realise that a quick decision in this matter would be welcomed?

Mr. Mabane

Yes, Sir, that is fully realised.
