HC Deb 03 October 1939 vol 351 c1799
26. Mr. Ede

asked the Secretary of State for War what applications he has received from parents respecting soldiers who, by giving false dates of birth on enlistment, have been sent overseas below the minimum age he has fixed for that purpose; and what decision he takes on such applications where the parents allegation that the soldier is under the prescribed age proves to be correct?

Sir V. Warrender

Four cases have come to notice. When the application is confirmed by a birth certificate, the soldier is sent home.

Mr. Lawson

Is it still the practice of the War Office to discharge boys who are under 17, if so requested by the parents of the boys?

Sir V. Warrender

If a boy has given a false age on attestation, and is proved to be under 17, I think that is the case.
