HC Deb 03 October 1939 vol 351 cc1797-8
23. Mr. Hogg

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is prepared, in the light of the decision of the War Cabinet to prepare for a war of at least three years, to review his decision as to the maximum age at which commissions will be granted for the period of the emergency; whether he is aware of the wastage of man-power entailed by this decision; and what steps he proposes to take to prevent such wastage?

Sir V. Warrender

Although the normal upper age limit for appointment to an emergency commission is 31, applicants between the ages of 31 and 60 may be accepted provided that have previous commissioned service in the Army or are in possession of special technical, academic or other similar qualifications.

Mr. R. Gibson

Since when has the upper age limit been fixed at 60, where previously it was 50?

Sir V. Warrender

I could not say without notice.
