HC Deb 02 October 1939 vol 351 c1660
13. Mr. Viant

asked the Postmaster-General the number of branch offices that are closed in London and elsewhere; the reason or reasons for their being closed; and the prospects of their being reopened in the near future?

The Postmaster-General (Major Tryon)

Of 210 branch offices in London 22 are closed partly because a very large number of the staff have been called to the colours and partly for structural alterations. It is hoped to reopen 10 of these within a fortnight. The bulk of the remainder will be opened as soon as the structural alterations are completed. It has not been considered necessary to take similar steps elsewhere.
