HC Deb 02 October 1939 vol 351 cc1662-3
24. Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether he will assure the House that no responsibility in respect to adult education has been transferred to the Ministry of Information, and that in this matter the question of both educational policy and administration will continue to be left to the properly constituted statutory bodies in co-operation with the voluntary bodies and not directed to any propaganda ends?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education (Mr. Kenneth Lindsay)

I can give the hon. Member an unqualified assurance that no responsibility in respect of adult education has been transferred to the Ministry of Information, that the service will continue to be administered by the Board of Education in co-operation with the recognised responsible bodies, and that no change in educational policy has been made or is contemplated.

Mr. Creech Jones

In view of the recent circular issued by the Ministry of Information, will the Minister see that in future, before such circulars are issued, the Board of Education are consulted?

Mr. Lindsay

I hope that will be so.
