HC Deb 30 November 1939 vol 355 c253
75. Mr. Viant

asked the First Commissioner of Works when he anticipates that an air-raid shelter will be erected for the protection of the staff of the Collector of Taxes, London 9th Area, 5/8, Vivian Mansions, Vivian Avenue, London, N.W.4, especially in view of the fact that two months ago the staff were informed that their office had been put on the special priority list of his Department for the earliest possible attention, but that since then there has been no visible progress in the matter?

Mr. Ramsbotham

These premises constitute a commercial building under the Civil Defence Act, and the responsibility for providing an air-raid shelter for the occupants rests, therefore, upon the landlords. I am informed that they have just deposited the plans with the local authority, and it is expected that work will commence as soon as the procedure of serving notices required under the Act has been fulfilled.
