HC Deb 30 November 1939 vol 355 c254
77. Captain Plugge

asked the Postmaster-General whether, in view of the inconvenience being caused, he is aware of the growing public dissatisfaction in many towns at the early closing of sub-post offices; and why the closing hours are not in accord with the closing hours of shops in the areas concerned?

Captain Waterhouse

The revised closing hours of Post Office business are in harmony with the revised normal closing hour for shops, but where a local authority has exercised its power of extending the normal closing hour from 6.0 p.m. to 7.0 p.m. I am taking steps to arrange for post offices in the locality to keep open until that hour.
