§ 69. Sir P. Hurdasked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether, in order to remove doubts from the minds of cottagers and smallholders who wish to keep pigs, he will say exactly what measure of restriction is proposed under the system of control?
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydMy right hon. Friend has already given an assurance that cottagers, smallholders and others will be permitted to produce and slaughter pigs for their own consumption. I am riot at present in a position to inform my hon. Friend exactly what measures of control will be imposed but I can assure Lim that any such measures will not be designed to restrict this type of production but merely to regulate it so as to prevent abuse.
§ Sir P. HurdIs my hon. Friend aware that that very reservation is enough to keep many cottagers from entering upon this enterprise, and that it is very desirable that some express statement should he made on the subject?
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydI fully sympathise with the point of view of my hon. Friend. We look to these producers to play a large part in the national effort, and there is no intention whatever of imposing undue restrictions. If my hon. Friend could see what is called, in the Department, the "cottage pig file," he would know the attention which we are giving to this very important subject.
