HC Deb 30 November 1939 vol 355 cc219-20
4. Mr. Garro Jones

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that benefit is refused by the Unemployment Assistance Board to Aberdeen employés who decline employment across the seas, at Kirkwall, on Government navvying work; and whether he can take any action to secure that, having regard to the extreme inclemency of the winter weather in that area, payment will be made for time during which it is impossible to work owing to the weather?

Mr. E. Brown

I am having inquiry made, and will communicate with the hon. Member.

5. Mr. Lawson

asked the Minister of Labour whether it is the intention that the provisions of the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1939, relating to the treatment of holidays in connection with unemployment benefit and the consequential change in the continuity rule shall come into operation next January?

Mr. Brown

I propose shortly to make a regulation deferring the operation of the provisions in question.

Mr. Lawson

On this very important matter, will the Minister give proper notice of these provisions coming into operation?

Mr. Brown

Surely this regulation will make that certain.
