HC Deb 16 November 1939 vol 353 c816
31. Mr. Colman

asked the Home Secretary to what extent, under existing regulations, the different police authorities have released for military service a limited number of members of the police forces, especially those who are ex-service men who are anxious and ready to join the colours for the duration of the war?

Sir J. Anderson

Detailed figures are not available, but I believe the numbers released are relatively small. As my hon. Friend is probably aware, the policy has been to retain in the police forces, for the initial period of the war, reservists who were not required for key positions in the fighting services. Arrangements are now being made for the release of these men in the near future.
