HC Deb 16 November 1939 vol 353 cc806-7
26. Mr. Jackson

asked the Home Secretary whether he will now give to the airraid precautions authorities the power to grant a small allowance for refreshments to volunteers who are on duty for a continuous period of six hours and over?

Sir J. Anderson

A free meal may be provided for personnel stationed at depots who remain continuously on duty for 12 hours or more. Simple rations may also be supplied free of cost to squads or parties working at their duties for long hours away from their depots.

Mr. T. Williams

Where volunteers at first-aid depots are on duty for six hours continuously cannot they have some light refreshment?

Sir J. Anderson

Apart from the special arrangement I have mentioned whereby free rations may be provided, authorities have been recommended to arrange for food at reasonable prices to be obtained from caterers in the vicinity of the depots or otherwise. The use of mobile canteens is also being proceeded with.
