HC Deb 15 November 1939 vol 353 c692
21. Mr. Culverwell

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the amount of prize bounty distributed after the Great War; and how many persons received such bounty?

Mr. Shakespeare

The total amount of prize bounty distributed during and after the war was £176,850. I regret that information concerning the number of officers and men receiving prize bounty is not now available.

Mr. Culverwell

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the expenditure of this large sum of money is quite unnecessary, as our sailors may be expected do do their duty without this reward?
