HC Deb 09 November 1939 vol 353 cc383-4
10. Mr. George Hall

asked the Minister of Labour whether he can now make a statement on the question of taking part of the allotment made by a man serving in His Majesty's Forces for a dependant into account by the Unemployment Assistance Board in determining the parents' allowance?

Mr. E. Brown

I am informed by the Board that the first 7s. of an allotment made by a serving soldier to a parent will be ignored in assessing the parent's allowance.

Mr. Hall

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider the question of relieving the allotment altogether irrespective of the amount, as there is no reason why the allotment should be taken into consideration, seeing that it is an allotment out of the man's pay?

Mr. Brown

I will put that point to the Board.

Mr. Charles Brown

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman how he thinks an unemployed man can make a regular income out of an allotment?

Mr. Brown

It is another kind of allotment.
