HC Deb 08 November 1939 vol 353 c217
60. Mr. Hopkin

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether an owner of pigs can now slaughter them on his premises; whether he intends to issue regulations controlling such slaughter; and when such regulations will be ready?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

I am not aware of any change in the position of an owner of pigs who wishes to slaughter them on his own premises. Before the commencement of bacon rationing, however, certain measures of control, the scope of which is now under consideration will be necessary.

Mr. J. Morgan

May I take it that the intention still is, generally speaking, to allow the cottager to keep his own pig?

Mr. Morrison

Certainly.
