HC Deb 08 November 1939 vol 353 cc223-4
73. Mr. Higgs

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether he is aware that confusion exists in the dried fruit trade; and can he see his way clear to decontrol the industry except for the fixing of wholesale and retail prices?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

I have already stated that I am considering how to modify the control on dried fruit, but I would point out that if the pool arrangements are abolished it follows that maxi- mum retail prices for the goods covered by these arrangements, in the main currants, raisins and sultanas must also be abolished.

Mr. Higgs

Is the Minister aware that some shops have not received supplies of dried fruits for more than a month?

Mr. Morrison

No, Sir, I am not aware of that, but if the hon. Gentleman will give me particulars, I will inquire into the matter.

Mr. Higgs

I shall be glad to give particulars to the Minister.
