asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that less than half of the Women's Land Army trainees at Harper Adams Agriculture College, Salop, were taken into agricultural situations; and whether this position is general in other counties?

Sir R. Dorman-Smith

Yes, Sir. The demand for the services of members of the Women's Land Army has not kept pace with training. It will be appreciated however, that we have had to have regard not only to immediate demands for these workers but also to probable demands in the future.

Is it not also the case that the Minister has not the machinery to carry out his scheme, and that there is a shameful lack of machinery—tractors and so on—throughout the country?
