HC Deb 02 November 1939 vol 352 cc2102-3
63. Sir Joseph Leech

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that there is a shortage of supplies, and a great rise in cost, of medicinal vegetables and plants hitherto obtainable from overseas which could be grown in the United Kingdom; and what steps he is taking to deal with this situation?

Mr. Elliot

I am aware that there is a shortage of a few medicinal plants grown abroad and that, consequently, there have been some rises in price. I have the situation under careful review and am taking steps to encourage so far as practicable the cultivation in England of the plants in question.
