HC Deb 02 November 1939 vol 352 c2105
77. Mr. David Adams

asked the Minister of Health whether, in view of the essential part played in the national effort by the health and social services and by the special war-time adjustments made, particularly in health services, he will arrange to make a statement to this House on lines similar to the statement made by the three Defence Ministers?

Mr. Elliot

I have noted the hon. Member's suggestion, but would remind him that the matter is one affecting the business of the House.

Mr. Adams

Am I to understand that that answer is given because of the modesty of the Minister? If so, shall I ask the Prime Minister this question?

Mr. Elliot

I think it would be a mistake to say that questions affecting the business of the House are not answered by a Minister solely on account of his modesty but because he is not able to give an answer.
