HC Deb 02 November 1939 vol 352 c2096
39. Mr. Thorne

asked the Home Secretary whether he can give any information in connection with a boy who fell down a manhole into a sewer at Hayes, Middlesex; and whether any reward is being given to the would-be rescuer?

Sir J. Anderson

I have received a report on this tragic accident. I appreciate the praiseworthy efforts which Mr. Hales made to rescue the child, but there are no funds at my disposal from which a reward could be paid to him.
