HC Deb 01 November 1939 vol 352 c1929
53. Sir P. Harris

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether, in the scheme for pooling of tea, any consideration is given for difference of taste and quality; whether it will be possible to buy established brands that have been mixed as the result of experience of the needs of various parts of the country; and the cause of the rise in price of tea since the war?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

There has not been and there is not in operation any scheme for pooling tea, and I hope that no such scheme will be required for some considerable time, if at all. As regards the concluding sentence of the question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given on 19th October to the hon. Member for North Cornwall (Mr. Horabin).

Sir P. Harris

Was a pooling scheme originally contemplated and then abandoned? If not, how did the rumour get about?

Mr. Alexander

Could the right hon. Gentleman say how many classes of tea the Food Controller is issuing to the trade?

Mr. Morrison

I could, with notice.
