asked the Prime Minister whether the Government of Iraq have been informed of the attitude of His Majesty's Government towards the Mufti of Jerusalem; and whether an assurance has been given that he will be prevented from conducting anti-British and anti-Jewish propaganda from Iraq?

Mr. Butler

Yes, Sir. The Iraqi Government are aware of the attitude of His Majesty's Government and have given formal assurances that they will not allow the Mufti of Jerusalem to be politically active himself nor allow his presence to be used as an occasion for agitation by others.

Mr. Williams

Can we have an assurance that the Mufti will not be able to find his way back into Palestine as easily as he found his way into Iraq?

Mr. Butler

I think the hon. Member may rest satisfied with the promise of the Iraqi Government.

Mr. Mander

Is it proposed that the Mufti should continue to reside in Iraq?
