45. Mr. De la Bèreasked the Prime Minister whether steps can be taken to effect a greater measure of contact and liaison between the various sections of the trade of this country and the Departments of the Government which are controlling these trades?
§ The Prime Minister (Mr. Chamberlain)Machinery already exists for this purpose, and I am not aware that any further measures are necessary. I am confident that those Departments which are exercis- 1923 ing war-time controls wish to maintain close contact with representatives of the trades affected, and would gladly consider any specific representations or suggestions for improvement in this respect.
Mr. De la BèreIs my right hon. Friend aware that the matter cannot be lightly dismissed—and cannot even be dismissed at all? It is urgent that the Government should consult and have the advice of all sections of the trade at all times.
§ The Prime MinisterI am afraid my hon. Friend is not aware himself of the machinery which already exists, and the close contact that there is between the trades concerned and the Government.
