HC Deb 01 November 1939 vol 352 c1935
70. Sir A. Baillie

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what orders have been issued from his Department that every cottager must first fill in a form and apply for a licence from the local food controller before selling any eggs?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

I assume that my hon. Friend is referring to the Food Control Committees (Local Distribution) Order. It provides for the issue of licences by the Committees in respect of retail sales of specified commodities, including eggs.

Sir A. Baillie

Is my right hon. Friend not a little apprehensive that if some of these poor cottagers have to fill in forms, the eggs may not be quite fresh, or is it contemplated that the "poolocrats" will put these rather unfresh eggs into an eggs' pool?

Mr. Morrison

Neither of those contingencies is likely to arise.
