HC Deb 26 May 1939 vol 347 cc2678-9
6. Mr. Day

asked the Secretary of State for Air what steps His Majesty's Government have now taken to prevent undue profits being made out of the expansion of the Royal Air Force; and in what additional ways do the Government propose to prevent profiteering in air armaments?

The Under-Secretary of State for Air (Captain Harold Balfour)

Negotiations on this matter are now proceeding, but I am not in a position to add to the statement made by my right hon. Friend on 9th March last.

Mr. Day

May we be informed whether the contracts are open to tender, or whether there is a closed list of manufacturers?

Captain Balfour

That is an entirely different question.
