HC Deb 25 May 1939 vol 347 cc2470-1
20. Mr. Brooke

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will arrange to admit volunteers under 20 or over 21 years of age to training courses of a civil character for work of national importance on terms similar to those proposed for men who enter such a course in lieu of compulsory military training?

Mr. E. Brown

The various training schemes of the Ministry are already available, subject to certain conditions, to unemployed persons of this age. I am not aware of any ground for extending these facilities as suggested.

Mr. Brooke

May I take it that the Minister will not close the door to any further development of his own policy of voluntary training schemes?

Mr. Brown

I shall do all I can to increase the instructional work of the Ministry.
