HC Deb 08 May 1939 vol 347 cc12-3
7. Lieut.-Commander Fletcher

asked the Prime Minister whether he is now able to make a statement concerning the denunciation by Germany of the Anglo-German Naval Agreement?

The Prime Minister

The situation created by the denunciation of the Anglo-German Naval Agreement is being considered in all its aspects, and a communication will in due course be made to the German Government.

Lieut.-Commander Fletcher

Was there any consultation by Germany with His Majesty's Government before this Agreement was denounced; and, if not, is it not very unusual for a Government to denounce an agreement without either notice or negotiations?

The Prime Minister

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative, and the answer to the second part is in the affirmative.
