HC Deb 04 May 1939 vol 346 c2070
68. Mr. Ede

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury what is the present staff of the right hon. Member for Luton (Mr. Burgin); and upon what subjects are the members of it engaged?

Captain Crookshank

My right hon. Friend has been lent a small personal staff pending Parliamentary authority for the formation of the proposed Ministry of Supply. This staff, which is composed of members of the Civil Service, at present numbers seven. It is engaged upon the work of planning for the new Ministry when formed.

Mr. Ede

May I have an answer to the second part of the question?

Captain Crookshank

I gave an answer when I said, "It is engaged upon the work of planning for the new Ministry when formed."

Mr. Ede

May we take it that no actual work has yet been done by the right hon. Gentleman in the Ministry of Supply?

Captain Crookshank

I am sure my right hon. Friend is fully occupied.
