HC Deb 03 May 1939 vol 346 cc1884-5
53. Mr. R. Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has received the report of the Anglo-American Committee which investigated the possibility of settling Jewish refugees in British Guiana; and what action it is proposed to take on this question?

Mr. M. MacDonald

I have seen a copy of the report which is addressed to the United States President's Advisory Committee on Refugees. Prompt and careful consideration is being given to the Report, and I am not at present in a position to make a statement on the matter,

Mr. Robinson

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether it is proposed to publish the report?

Mr. MacDonald

We are in consultation with the United States authorities on that question, and I think that publication will take place in the near future.

Miss Rathbone

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when we may be able to get access to the report?

Mr. MacDonald

I cannot give a specific date until we have completed our negotiations in the matter with the United States authorities.
