HC Deb 02 May 1939 vol 346 cc1672-3
15. Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the number of mentally defective children in Ross and Cromarty who are, or should be, in certified institutions provided by the county council under the 1913 Act; and how many such institutions they have set up in the past 25 years?

The Secretary of State for Scotland (Mr. Colville)

The number of mentally defective children from Ross and Cromarty who are in certified institutions is 10. The county council have not provided an institution and the 10 children are accommodated in a number of certified institutions with which, I am informed, arrangements are made as required. The county council report that there are no mentally defective children who should be, but are not, in institutions, except possibly one case which is being considered.

Mr. MacMillan

Which are the certified institutions?

Mr. Colville

I cannot give the hon. Gentleman the names of all the institutions, but some are in Larbert and some are in Gogarburn.
