HC Deb 29 March 1939 vol 345 cc2035-6
47. Mr. Pilkington

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how many recruits are needed by the Army, Navy, and Air Force, respectively, during 1939?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

As the answer contains a number of figures, I will, with my hon. Friend's permission, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Mr. Fleming

Will the answer show the number of recruits for the R.N.V.R. in areas like Manchester?

Mr. Morrison

I do not think they have been divided up, but if my hon. and learned Friend looks at the reply, he can then put a question which will receive an answer.

Following is the answer:

The entries required by His Majesty's Forces during the financial year 1939–40, on the basis of approved establishments, are approximately as follow:

Officers Other Ranks.
R.N. including Royal Marines 950 18,000
Regular Army 1,900 40,000
R.A.F. 2,000 18,000

These figures do not include Auxiliary Forces or Reserves.
