HC Deb 28 March 1939 vol 345 c1869
7. Colonel Burton

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is now prepared to make an Order that goods from abroad shall be marked with the specific country of origin, and not merely marked foreign?

Mr. Stanley

I have no powers to make the Order which my hon. and gallant Friend suggests, but I have at present under consideration representations for an amendment of the Merchandise Marks Act, 1926, which authorises the use of the mark "foreign."
