asked the Home Secretary what number of members of the Metropolitan police force were hired by private organisations or persons during 12 months to the latest available date; and what amount of money was paid for such services?

Mr. Lloyd

The number of members of the Metropolitan police force hired by private organisations or persons during the 12 months ending December, 1938, was, on the basis of man days: 59 superintendents, 564 inspectors, 2,244 sergeants, 25,467 constables, and the sum of £33,368 8s. 10d. was paid to the Metropolitan Police Fund in respect of their services.

Is the tendency during recent years for these hirings to increase or decrease?
