HC Deb 16 March 1939 vol 345 c583
42. Mr. White

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education to what extent the recommendations of the Departmental Committee on Private Schools have been carried into effect by administrative and/or voluntary action?

Mr. Lindsay

It would require legislation to implement the recommendations of the report in question. As I stated in my reply to the hon. Member for South Shields (Mr. Ede) on 2nd February, this is one of the matters which the Board propose to discuss with representatives of the local education authorities.

Mr. Ede

When does the hon. Gentleman expect to begin those discussions?

Mr. Lindsay

Almost immediately. The Spens Report is a very big report, as the hon. Member knows, and it has had to be considered in the Department. Certain preliminary discussions have now been concluded.
