HC Deb 16 March 1939 vol 345 cc586-7
46. Lieut.-Commander Fletcher

asked the Prime Minister whether any member of the Committee of Imperial Defence will attend the Conference on Imperial De fence in the Pacific which is to be held in New Zealand?

The Prime Minister

No, Sir. As has already been announced in the Press, the United Kingdom representatives at the conference will be the High Commissioner in New Zealand for His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom, the High Commissioner for the Western Pacific, and representatives of the Service Departments.

Lieut.-Commander Fletcher

Will the Prime Minister consider the suggestion that Lord Hankey be appointed to attend this important conference? Would not Lord Hankey's great store of personal knowledge and experience render his presence of great value both to this country and to the Dominions? Will the Prime Minister consider that?

The Prime Minister

I will consider it, but I think that probably the arrangements already made will be found satisfactory.
