HC Deb 16 March 1939 vol 345 c612
Mr. G. Strauss

(by Private Notice) asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will take immediate steps to prevent the large gold reserve held in London by the Czecho-Slovak National Bank being handed over to the German authorities?

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir John Simon)

I understand that no request has been made for the transfer of any part of the gold reserve up to the present; but we have asked the Bank of England not to make any exceptional transfers of Czecho-Slovak gold or balances, without reference to His Majesty's Government.
