HC Deb 16 March 1939 vol 345 cc579-80
34. Mr. Edmund Harvey

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education what representations the Board has received from teachers and members of local education authorities in relation to the removal of the offices of the Board to a situation distant from Whitehall, and the disadvantages involved in this removal?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education (Mr. Kenneth Lindsay)

No official representations have been made to the Board. The decision to remove the Board's offices was reached only after the most careful consideration.

Mr. Harvey

Have any unofficial representations come to the notice of the Board?

Mr. Lindsay

I have heard a few remarks.

Mr. Lipson

Is there any truth in the report that an employé of the Board told an inquirer that the Board of Education is being displaced to make room for the Intelligence Department?
