§ 76. Mr. Pilkingtonasked the First Commissioner of Works whether it will be possible to preserve the four successive river walls of the ancient Whitehall Palace in the new buildings to be constructed?
§ Mr. FurnessIt is hoped to be able to preserve the steps and river wall of Queen Mary's terrace. The other river 409 walls referred to by my hon. Friend fall within the main walls of the new building, and it will be impossible to preserve them. They have, however, been fully recorded and photographed.
§ Mr. PilkingtonWill not half the significance of the final wall be lost if the three other walls are not preserved; and should not the matter be reconsidered?
§ Mr. FurnessI will convey that suggestion to my right hon. Friend.
