HC Deb 15 March 1939 vol 345 c416
91. Mr. Parker

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether it is the practice of the Government in giving contracts in connection with the rearmament programme to firms in the engineering industry to insist on the recognition of trade unions, and the observation of the fair wages condition, as laid down by this House in agreements negotiated between the Engineering and Allied Trades Employers' Federation and the engineering trade unions?

Captain Wallace

Contracts in connection with the rearmament programme, in common with all other contracts let by Government Departments in this country, include a clause embodying the Fair Wages Resolution of the House of Commons of 10th March, 1909. It is not, however, the practice to make conditions in regard to the recognition of any particular trade union.
