§ 87. Mr. Thurtleasked the Home Secretary whether there have been any prosecutions under 1 Edw. 6, c. 1, 5 and 6 Edw. 6, c. 1, 1 Eliz. c. 2, 9 Wm. 3, c. 35, Blasphemy Act, 1697, 19 Geo. 2, c. 21, and Profane Oaths Act, 1745, since 1914; and will he consider introducing legislation to repeal these Acts?
§ Mr. LloydSo far as can be ascertained there have been since 1914 five prosecutions under the last-mentioned Act. Among the five Statues cited by the hon. Member is the Act of Uniformity, and, as he will realise, the likelihood of Parliament finding time in the near future for the revision of these Acts is small.
§ Mr. GallacherHas there never been any question of considering the advisability of using the blasphemy laws against those who claim that the Prime Minister was divinely guided at Munich?
