HC Deb 14 March 1939 vol 345 cc196-7
25. Mr. Mander

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs to what extent the Dominions have concurred in the action of the British Government, as set out in the letter to the Secretary-General of the League of Nations regarding the General Act for the pacific settlement of international disputes?

Sir T. Inskip

Similar action to that taken by His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom was taken by His Majesty's Government in New Zealand. The Union of South Africa is not a party to the General Act. No action has been taken by the other Dominion Governments.

Mr. Mander

Was there not any consultation with the Dominions Governments before the British Government took this action?

Sir T. Inskip

The Dominions Governments are always kept informed of these matters.

Mr. Mander

The British Government are going to act differently, then, from other Governments. Is it not possible to co-ordinate Imperial foreign policy better than this?
