HC Deb 14 March 1939 vol 345 cc188-9
6. Mr. Leonard

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland to what extent delay would have been caused in making avail able for housing an acre of land in Castle bay, Barra, by contesting the demand by the owner for a feu duty of £12, deemed to be excessive by the Department of Health?

Mr. Colville

I am informed that as a result of negotiation an agreement has recently been reached between the county council and the owner for the payment of a feu duty of £8.

Mr. Leonard

Will the right hon. Gentleman answer the part of my question with regard to delay?

Mr. Colville

It is impossible to do so with any certainty. The time required for the compulsory acquisition procedure varies from case to case, and three to four months may be regarded generally as the minimum. I understand that an amicable settlement has now been reached.

Mr. Leonard

In view of the location of this housing site, does the sum of £8 seem reasonable?

Mr. Colville

That is the figure agreed between the two parties.
