HC Deb 09 March 1939 vol 344 cc2335-6
51. Captain Peter Macdonald

asked the Minister of Health whether he will reconsider the decision to make the whole of the Isle of Wight a reception area for purposes of evacuation, and consider the advisability of excluding more parts in the vicinity of the shipbuilding and industrial area and parts connected with naval defence?

Mr. Elliot

As I stated in the course of the Debate on 2nd March, when the survey is complete I shall consider the representations which have been made to me as to the classification of individual districts, and the position of the Isle of Wight will be considered in this connection.

Mr. Noel-Baker

Is not this case typical of many throughout the country, and will the right hon. Gentleman inquire into the whole classification of reception and evacuation areas?

Mr. Elliot

I will certainly review it when the returns are completed, and more so because we are receiving a number of offers in excess of that which is necessary for us to accommodate the children who are being evacuated.
