HC Deb 08 March 1939 vol 344 cc2144-5
73. Lord Willoughby de Eresby

asked the Minister of Labour what was the amount of the surplus standing to the credit of the Unemployment (Agricultural Workers) Insurance Fund at the last available date?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

On 4th March, 1939, the balance on the Agricultural Account of the Unemployment Fund was about £2,730,000.

Lord Willoughby de Eresby

Can my hon. Friend give any indication as to how this total is to be used?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I am afraid I cannot at this moment.

Mr. T. Smith

Would it not be a good thing if some of this surplus was used to abolish the maximum of 30s. a week?
