HC Deb 08 March 1939 vol 344 cc2137-8
54. Mr. Porritt

asked the Minister of Transport whether, to promote safety on the roads, he will issue regulations making it an offence to park a motor car in a public thoroughfare on its off-side of the roadway?

Mr. Burgin

I have no power to make such regulations, but Section 50 of the Road Traffic Act, 1930, makes it an offence to leave a vehicle in such circumstances as to be likely to cause danger to other persons using the road. Whether danger is or is not likely to be caused is a question of fact.

Mr. Porritt

Is the Minister aware that such regulations are in force in America and Canada with complete satisfaction and success?

Mr. Burgin

All I said was that I had not power to make them here.
